Massage therapy is a health care and wellness profession. The practice of massage therapy involves a client/patient-centered session, intended to fulfill therapeutic goals, with the therapist being free of personal agenda. Massage therapy also meets the well-researched need for touch and human connection. Massage therapy is about one human touching another with clear intention, focused attention, and the attitudes of compassion and non-judgment.

During a session a massage therapist incorporates a wide variety of techniques and approaches to address the varied focuses of the client/patient, which may include any or all of the following:

Treatment of injury or conditions, Relaxation, Stress reduction, Wellness, Enhancing personal growth, Encouraging awareness of body, Facilitating the balance and connection of body, mind, and spirit

We offer the following massages:

Deep Tissue- Designed to relieve severe tension in the muscle and the connective tissue or fascia. This type of massage focuses on the muscles located below the surface of the top muscles. Deep tissue massage is often recommended for individuals who experience consistent pain, are involved in heavy physical activity (such as athletes), and patients who have sustained physical injury. It is not uncommon for receivers of deep tissue massage to have their pain replaced with a new muscle ache for a day or two.

Swedish- Swedish massage uses five styles of long, flowing strokes to massage. The five basic strokes are effleurage (sliding or gliding), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), friction (cross fiber) and vibration/shaking. Swedish massage has shown to be helpful in reducing pain, joint stiffness, and improving function in patients with osteoarthritisof the knee over a period of eight weeks. It has also been shown to be helpful in individuals with poor circulation

Hot Stone- A specialty massage where the therapist uses smooth, heated stones, either as an extension of their own hands, or by placing them on the body while they massage other parts of the body. The heat can be both deeply relaxing and help warm up tight muscles so the therapist can work more deeply, more quickly.

Reflexology- An alternative medicine involving the physical act of applying pressure to the feet, hands, or ears with specific thumb, finger, and hand techniques without the use of oil or lotion. It is based on what reflexologists claim to be a system of zones and reflex areas that they say reflect an image of the body on the feet and hands, with the premise that such work effects a physical change to the body.

Sports- Sports massage was originally developed to help athletes prepare their bodies for optimal performance, recover after a big event, or function well during training. Sports massage emphasizes prevention and healing of injuries to the muscles and tendons. GREAT FOR RECENT ACCIDENTS OR INJURY.

Thai- The technique combines massage with yoga-like positions during the course of the massage; the northern style emphasizes stretching while the southern style emphasizes acupressure.

Clinical- An outcome-based massage, primarily the application of specific treatment protocols targeted to the specific problem(s) the patient presents with physician’s diagnosis and administered after a thorough assessment/evaluation by the medical massage therapist with specific outcomes being the basis for treatment. Great for recently broken bones or specific targeted areas.

Neuromuscular- a form of soft tissue manual therapy. It is distinguished from other types of massage in that a quasi-static pressure is applied to the skin with the aim of stimulating specific areas of skeletal muscle. Often these areas of muscle are myofascial trigger points.
